From the Back of the Book

Enjoy the Taste of an Amish Christmas

Keep things simple this Christmas as you focus on faith, family, and food. Over 200 recipes straight from Amish and Mennonite kitchens will help you fill your table with home cooked delights that will make memories on the tongue.

Delightful recipes are divided into categories of snacks, breads, gifts from the kitchen, salads and sides, main dishes, and sweets. As an added bonus, you will enjoy featured articles giving insight into Amish life during Christmastime. Wanda E. Brunstetter's special friendships in various Amish and Mennonite communities give her a unique perspective on their traditions which she joyfully shares with you.

My Thoughts

This is a nice collection of recipes for the holidays or any time. This cookbook is spiral bound and the perfect size to have open on your counter to read from while you are cooking and baking. There are plenty of pictures and it is easy to read.

My favorite section of this cookbook is "Gifts from the Kitchen". It has some non-food items such as homemade potpourri, good deed jars, and even silly putty. This section also has recipes to give away ingredients in jars which I always think are great gifts to give and receive. There are also recipes for candies and sweets that can easily be given away.

Scattered throughout the book are articles about how the Amish celebrate Christmas which I found very interesting. My favorite was about Christmas gifts.

I have three recipes that I am excited to try this holiday season: Pizza Bread, Gingerbread Men Cookies, and Holiday Spritz cookies.

If you enjoy reading about the Amish and/or are looking for some new recipes for your holiday collection, I recommend this cookbook.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
