Review: A Pursuit of Home by Kristi Ann Hunter

Title: A Pursuit of Home
Author: Kristi Ann Hunter
Series: Haven Manor #3
Publication Date: November 2019
Length: 376 pages

About the Book

In early 1800s England, Jess Beauchene has spent most of her life in hiding and always on the move in an effort to leave her past far behind her. But when she learns the family she thought had died just might be alive and in danger, she knows her secrets can only stay buried for so long.

Derek Thornbury loves the past, which has led him to become an expert in history and artifacts. He knows Jess has never liked him, but when she requests his help deciphering the clues laid out in an old family diary, he can't resist the urge to solve the puzzle.

As Jess and Derek race to find the hidden artifact before her family's enemies, they learn as much about each other as they do about the past. But can their search to uncover the truth of the past lead to a future together?

My Thoughts

What a wonderful book! There is a mystery that kept me turning the pages. I loved that some characters from prior books were integral in this story and I want to reread their stories because I remember they were so good as well! I'm still thinking about this book!

Jess is such a unique character. I mean, how many women do you know who are expert knife throwers?!? Her disguises are so good and her bravery amazes me. I enjoyed watching Jess figure out who she really is. Derek seems to be the complete opposite of Jess in that he is more of a staid and nose-buried-in-a-book type of individual, however the dynamic of the two of them together absolutely works. At times, the two of them are comical.

I thought I had the ending figured out by the end of the prologue, but I was wrong. I loved how this book included a mystery and intrigue in addition to the romantic aspect. I enjoyed the spiritual content as well.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Review: Stitches In Time by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Title: Stitches In Time
Author: Suzanne Woods Fisher
Series: The Deacon's Family Book 2
Publication Date: October 2019
Length: 330 pages

From the Back of the Book

Keeping people at arm's length had worked well as a life strategy for Sam Schrock.

Until he met Mollie Graber.

Schoolteacher Mollie Graber has come to Stoney Ridge for a fresh start. Aware of how fleeting and fragile life is, she wants to live it boldly and bravely. When Luke Schrock, new to his role as deacon, asks the church to take in foster girls from a group home, she's the first to raise her hand. The power of love, she believes, can pick up the dropped stitches in a child's heart and knit them back together. Mollie envisions sleepovers and pillow fights. What she gets are sleepless nights and police at the door.

There's only one thing that breaks through the girls' hard shells--an interest in horses. Reluctantly and skeptically, horse trainer Sam Schrock gets drawn into Mollie's chaotic life. What he didn't expect was for love to knit together the dropped stitches in his own heart . . . just in time.

Suzanne Woods Fisher invites you back to the little Amish community of Stoney Ridge for a touching story of the power of love.

A fresh start…and an old love reignited?
A Rocky Mountain Heroes romance

For widow Kayla Bradshaw, restoring a historic Colorado hotel means a better life for her and her soon-to-arrive baby. But she needs construction help from Jude Stephens, the love she lost through a misunderstanding. Working with Kayla, the police officer finds himself forgiving her—and longing to rebuild her shattered confidence. But can they trust each other enough to forge a future together?

                                                           MY THOUGHTS

This story makes me sigh a happy sigh. I really enjoyed this book! I was drawn in right from the start and loved every minute of it! This story had a heroine that had to overcome her past and a strong hero to help her do that.

I liked the second-chance-at-romance theme. It only took a couple of encounters between Kayla and Jude before I wanted them to get back together. There were several subplots going on such as Jude’s future as a cattle rancher, the romance between Clint and Hillary, and Kayla’s relationship with her in-laws that added to this story. I also loved the friendship between Kayla and Lily.

There is talk of abuse in this book so readers should be aware of that in case that is a trigger for them. It is handled well.

This is the fourth book in the series, but can easily be read as a standalone.

If you like contemporary Christian fiction, I highly recommend this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Amish Christmas
Matchmaker by Vannetta Chapman

Title: The Amish Christmas Matchmaker

Series: Indiana Amish Brides #4

Author: Vannetta Chapman

Publisher: Love Inspired

Release Date: September 1, 2019

Genre: Inspirational Amish Fiction

She’ll find him a wife for Christmas…

Which of these Indiana Amish Brides is next?

With her wedding business thriving, Annie Kauffmann could never leave her beloved Amish community.

So when handsome Amish cowboy Levi Lapp tries to convince her father to move the family to Texas, she must put a stop to it.

If Annie finds Levi a wife, he might forget his dream of moving…but can she keep from falling for him herself?

I enjoyed this book! I was a little slow to get into it and I wasn’t connecting with the characters in the beginning, however as soon as Annie and Levi pretended to be “stepping out”, the story really picked up for me.

I liked that Annie was a successful businesswoman. I thought it was realistic that she so adamantly did not want her family to move to Texas, however I didn’t like her initial animosity toward Levi. I liked Annie’s relationship with her best friend and business partner.

It was fun that others could see the feelings blossoming between Annie and Levi before they could and I enjoyed the chemistry between them.

If you like Amish Christian fiction, I recommend this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
