ABOUT THE BOOK

the amish nanny's sweetheartTitle: The Amish Nanny's Sweetheart
Author: Jan Drexler
Publisher: Love Inspired Historical
Release Date: March 1, 2018
Genre: Inspirational Historical Amish Fiction
Love in Plain Sight

As nanny for her nephew, Judith Lapp’s finally part of a vibrant, joyful Amish community instead of living on the outskirts looking in. But teaching her neighbors’ Englischer farmworker to read Pennsylvania Dutch wasn’t part of her plan. And the more time she spends with Guy Hoover, the more he sparks longings for a home and family of Judith’s own.

Guy figured he would never be truly accepted by his Amish employers’ community—even though the Mast family treats him like a son. But Judith’s steadfast caring shows him that true belonging could be within his reach…if he and Judith can reconcile their very different hopes—and hearts.

MY THOUGHTS

I have a confession to make. I don't usually read Amish fiction and historical fiction is not my go-to genre. I was so excited about being part of the new JustRead Publicity Tours team that I signed up for The Amish Nanny's Sweetheart tour because it was one of the first tours I saw. I've heard good things about Jan Drexler and I am a huge fan of Love Inspired contemporary novels so I thought this would be a solid book. I clearly need to expand my reading horizons because I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

I was drawn in right from the opening scene where Judith is going to her first Singing. I really liked Judith by the end of the first chapter. At the Singing, Judith takes a friendly liking to Guy but is warned away from him by one of the other girls who doesn't like him because he wasn't raised in their Amish community. I loved Judith's reaction when she determines "She would do everything she could to help him feel welcome in the community." Yay for Judith for making up her own mind! The one thing I wish Judith would have been better at was guarding her heart from Guy before he became a believer.

I liked how much of the story centered around Guy and his quest for a sense of belonging. My heart broke for him upon learning that his mother died when he was young and his father dropped him off an orphanage. Guy lived his life believing that his father would return for him. I enjoyed watching his character transform and seeing the hole in his heart be filled by Jesus.

I thought this was a nice romance, that there was good spiritual depth to this book, and that it was a good storyline. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes Christian fiction. (It may have turned me into an Amish fiction fan. 😊)

I received a complimentary copy of this book. A positive review was not required. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
jan drexler

Jan grew up surrounded by books and storytellers. With Pastors and Teachers populating both sides of her extended family, we aren’t surprised that she wanted to be a first-class storyteller herself.

Born and raised in Michigan, Jan is the descendant of Amish, Mennonite and Brethren immigrants who settled in Berks, Somerset and Lancaster Counties in Pennsylvania in the mid-1700’s. The descendants of these immigrants pioneered in Maryland, Ohio, and finally Elkhart and LaGrange Counties in Northern Indiana in the 1850’s.

During the years when Jan was raising and homeschooling their children, she and her husband moved nine times in thirty years, finally landing in South Dakota where they enjoy incredibly Michigan-like weather. A northerner is always a northerner!

The ideas for Jan’s books come from the stories told by her parents and grandparents, seasoned with a lot of research and imagination.

  1. I'm so glad you liked it!! I love Amish fiction. Actually, let me say that I love most Christian genres that are put in front of me :) I just love books lol!!
I do love a story where an outsider comes into the "Amish World" so to speak. It's just so neat to see and makes me wonder how often it happens in the real world.
So glad you signed up for this tour!!
