My Thoughts

I think Prayers for Every Occasion is great! My favorite thing about this book is the scripture that is included. I like using Bible verses when I pray and not only does this book have a section of prayers from the Bible, it has scripture sprinkled throughout the topical prayers.

The book contains four sections. The first section contains prayers for specific occasions. These topics include "Moving", "Graduation", "Friendship", even "Tax Season"! One of my favorites is "Bedtime". This is what I thought the entire book would be and I was pleasantly surprised to find not only great content here, but three more sections as well.

The second section contains prayers from the Bible. These are also arranged by topic, but include a prayer from scripture.

The next section contains prayers from hymns. I remember growing up in a church that sang hymns (my church now mostly sings praise and worship music) and really trying to mean the words as I sang them. I hadn't thought of using them as prayers, but what a great idea!

The final section is called Prayers from Across the Ages and contains prayers prayed by the likes of Martin Luther and Ralph Waldo Emerson. This is my least favorite section of the book because these prayers are written in older English and harder for me to make into my own. I know some people really enjoy this type of language and would especially enjoy this section.

There is no wrong way to pray! I believe you can talk to God just like you are talking to a friend. I recommend reading the prayers in this book and if they express what you are feeling, praying them from your heart. You can also use this book to get ideas for adding to your prayers, learning new scripture to pray, and praying specifically for an occasion that you might not have otherwise thought to pray for.

Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
