Memorable Monday - December 17, 2018

It's Memorable Monday! This idea was created by Becca from The Becca Files to highlight books that we've read in the past and are memorable to us.

On a personal note, my mom was admitted to the hospital this weekend and is pretty sick. I would appreciate prayers for her healing and for no complications.

This week I'm highlighting Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball by Donita K. Paul. I loved this book! I recall that it wasn't spiritually accurate, but it was a great story which I really enjoyed. It's on my keeper shelf.

From the Back of the Book

Veterinarian Pete Harding doesn’t date single moms.
After showing up to a blind date to find he left before she arrived, Keira is reminded why she doesn’t date. She had true love once but a tragic accident ripped him from her and their son, who’s now four and only wants a puppy for Christmas this year.
Although off limits since she’s a single mom, Pete determines to help Keira find the perfect puppy for her son.
Keira wonders about Pete. He says he doesn’t date women with children, yet she can’t help but notice he behaves like a man who has more on his mind than finding a puppy.
Will love break down Pete’s walls and bring more than a puppy for Christmas?

Memorable Monday - November 12, 2018

It's Memorable Monday! This idea was created by Becca from The Becca Files to highlight books that we've read in the past and are memorable to us.

This book came to mind last week after reading one of Becca's blog posts about books that are "heartbreakers". I remember reading Karen Kingsbury's Even Now which a friend had loaned me and my husband telling me that he didn't think it was a good idea for me to read any more books from that friend because I cried so much while reading this one!

About the Book

Sometimes hope for the future is found in the ashes of yesterday.

Shane Galantera man ready to put down roots after years of searching. But is he making the right choice? Or is there a woman somewhere who even now remembers as does he those long-ago days . . . and a love that hasn't faded with time?

Lauren Gibbs a successful international war correspondent who gave up on happily-ever-after years ago when it was ripped away from her. Since then, shes never looked back. So how come she cant put to rest the one question that haunts her: Why is life so empty?

Emily Anderson a college freshman raised by her grandparents, and about to take her first internship as a journalist. But before she can move ahead, she discovers a love story whose tragic ending came with her birth. As a result, she is drawn to look back and search out the mother shes never met.

A young woman seeking answers to her hearts deep questions. A man and woman separated by lies and long years. . . yet who have never forgotten each other. With hallmark tenderness and power, Karen Kingsbury weaves a tapestry of lives, losses, love, and faith and the miracle of resurrection.

Review: A Christmas by the Sea by Melody Carlson

Title: A Christmas by the Sea
Author: Melody Carlson
Publication Date: September 2018
Pages: 176

About the Book

"When Wendy Harper inherits her family's beachside cottage in Seaside, Maine, she sees it as a way to finally pay off the debts that have mounted since her husband died. But before it can be sold, the neglected property must be renovated. She and her 12-year-old son Jackson move in--temporarily, she reminds him--in order to do the work themselves, even though Christmas is coming. The charming town, along with local craftsman Caleb Colton, pulls on both Wendy and Jackson, who even registers himself for school in a bid to get his mom to move them there permanently. Wendy knows that the most responsible thing to do is to sell the cottage and return to Ohio, but the lure of the sea is hard to resist."

Memorable Monday - November 5, 2018

It's Memorable Monday! This idea was created by Becca from The Becca Files to highlight books that we've read in the past and are memorable to us.

A series of books that is memorable to me is the Sweet Valley High series by Francine Pascal. I LOVED reading these books as a teenager and it was so fun to loan and borrow the books with one of my friends who also read them. Double Love was the first book in the series.

About the Book

Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield are identical twins at Sweet Valley High. They're both popular, smart, and gorgeous, but that's where the similarity ends. Elizabeth is friendly, outgoing, and sincere -- nothing like her snobbish and conniving twin. Jessica gets what she wants -- at school, with friends, and especially with boys.

This time, Jessica has set her sights on Todd Wilkins, the handsome star of the basketball team -- the one boy that Elizabeth really likes. Elizabeth doesn't want to lose him, but what Jessica wants, Jessica usually gets ... even if it ends up hurting her sister.

Title: When Hearts Collide
Author: Sara Beth Williams
Release Date: September 2018
Length: 279 pages

About the Book

"A reckless mistake landed Jacob “Jay” Mathews behind bars, but it was his inescapable guilt that led him to God. Upon his release, with the help of a spiritual mentor and friend, he strives to move forward with his life. Determined to graduate college, get a job, and follow God’s word, the last thing Jay needs or wants is a girlfriend. Until he meets Lacey Bennett.

When fervent prayers for reconciliation between her divorced parents go unanswered, and her older sister tragically dies, Lacey questions how God could allow such tragedies to befall her family. Turning her back on her past and God, she focuses on her future. College and theater are her ultimate goals; falling for the one type of guy she swore to avoid—a Christian—is not. No matter how much she wants to resist, Jay is irresistible.

As their relationship deepens, Jay struggles with Lacey’s unresolved anger and her unwillingness to even discuss faith. All he wants to do is reveal how God changed his life, but doing so would mean revealing his status as an ex convict. Finally, as she begins to rekindle her faith, past secrets collide, threatening to destroy everything they’ve built. Now, Jay must rely on his faith more than he ever has before. Can they learn to forgive—or is their relationship fractured beyond repair?"

It's Memorable Monday! This idea was created by Becca from The Becca Files to highlight books that we've read in the past and are memorable to us.

This week I'm highlighting Leaving Oxford by Janet W. Ferguson. This book is memorable to me because the main character suffers with panic attacks and I do, too. It was interesting to read how she dealt with her anxiety and although I deal differently, I could totally relate to her. This was the first book I'd read by this author and I liked it so much that I went on to read several more.

Review: A Stolen Heart by Amanda Cabot

From the Back of the Book

From afar, Cimarron Creek seems like an idyllic town tucked in the Texas Hill Country. But when former schoolteacher Lydia Crawford steps onto its dusty streets in 1880, she finds a town with a deep-seated resentment of Northerners - like her. Lydia won't let that get her down, though. All will be well when she's reunited with her fiance.

But when she discovers he has disappeared - and that he left behind a pregnant wife - Lydia is at a loss about what to do next. The handsome sheriff urges her to trust him, but can she trust anyone in this town where secrets are as prevalent as bluebonnets in spring?

Bestselling author Amanda Cabot invites you into Texas's storied past to experience adventure, mystery - and love.
