Review: You're Already Amazing by Holley Gerth

Reading a book by Holley Gerth is reading something warm and wonderful. You're Already Amazing was no exception.

My Thoughts

To start with, the cover is soooo pretty! I was always happy picking up the book just because it looked so nice.

I read this book during my quiet times. I would just read a section or two at a time so I could savor and ponder each point. My Bible study group also read this book and it worked well for that because there were good discussion questions in the back.

The book covers several topics. Holley encourages us to learn to embrace who God created us to be (and that it's okay if you're not the same as your seemingly perfect next door neighbor or the woman at church who looks like she has it all together). We're encouraged to realize we're loved by God just because of who we are...and we're each pretty special!

One point I really liked is that we only need to please one and that is God. If we are doing our best to follow God's will and someone gossips about us or criticizes us to others, that's not our problem. Our job is to live a life pleasing to God. Holley also points out that in living a life pleasing to God, we are not to gossip about others.

My favorite point in the book is how Holley encourages us to take care of ourselves. She puts this in perspective by pointing out that we're able to give more away and be a better friend, wife, mom, etc. when we take the time to refuel ourselves. I recharge my batteries by writing letters. Yep, the old snail mail kind of letters! When I can spend even a few minutes in an evening writing to a child we sponsor, writing to my pen pal, or sending a card to a friend, I am a happy person. (I think this is why my husband supports my obsession with note cards and colored pens.) After reading this book, I now make it a point to do this rather than just fitting it in when I have time.

I purchased a copy of this book. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I Loved This Line

"You're our one shot at what you have to offer. God doesn't have a backup plan for you. So take care of yourself. You're blessing all of us when you do, and you bring joy to the heart of God, too." 1

From the Back of the Book

Pssst...pull up a chair and I'll tell you a secret. You'd better lean in close for this one.

You don't have to do more, be more, have more.

I'm sure there are security alarms going off somewhere. You should probably hide this book when your in-laws come over.

But it's true.

It's the kind of true that will change your life, set you free, and make you wake up smiling for the first time in a long time. I know because that's what it did for me...

So watch out, sister. If you keep reading you just might be next.
