Review: Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst

Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst was far more than I expected...and I was expecting a lot!

My thoughts:  To start with, I love the cover! I just think it's so pretty. 😊 I was expecting a good book about how to deal with my feelings when I'm feeling left out and I got that and more!

Lysa talks about how we are loved by God just because of who we are, therefore we don't have to try to gain the approval of the world. She goes on to talk about how God's love enables us to say "no" to the flesh when we feel like making negative comments to or about someone or trying to "one-up" someone when we are feeling rejected.

Another point Lysa makes that spoke to me is that when we are feeling rejected or unfairly treated, we should still honor God by, among other things, speak with honor and peace in the midst of being dishonored and threatened.

I was reminded by this book that sometimes when we aren't included in something or things don't work out the way we desperately want them to, it can be for our protection. I know there have been times in my life when I was begging...begging...BEGGING God for something and years later I could clearly see why the answer was "no".

There are numerous Bible verses throughout this book to hide in our hearts for times when we're feeling uninvited and the host of emotions that go along with that feeling.

I purchased a copy of this book. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love this line: "Let my reactions to all things make it evident that I spend a lot of time with You." What a great daily prayer and goal!

I was inspired by almost every chapter! More specifically, I gained tools to be Christ-like even when I'm feeling left out. I'm also inspired by this scripture; "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Corinthians 9:8.

From the back of the book: In Uninvited, Lysa shares her own deeply personal experiences of rejection - from the perceived judgment of the perfectly toned woman one elliptical over to the incredibly painful childhood abandonment by her father. She leans in to honestly examine the roots of rejection, as well as rejection's ability to poison relationships from the inside out, including our relationship with God.

With biblical depth, gut-honest vulnerability, and refreshing wit, Lysa will help you:

  • Stop feeling left out by believing that even when you are over-looked by others you are handpicked by God.
  • Change your tendency to either fall apart or control the actions of others by embracing God-honoring ways to process your hurt.
  • Know exactly what to pray for the next ten days to steady your soul and restore your confidence in the midst of rejection.
  • Overcome the two core fears that feed your insecurities by understanding the secret of belonging.
Uninvited reminds us we are destined for a love that can never be diminished, tarnished, shaken, or taken - a love that does not reject or uninvite.
