Review: An Elegant Facade by Kristi Ann Hunter

What a wonderful book! An Elegant Facade is the second book in Kristi Ann Hunter's Hawthorne House series and it was wonderful to read. If only you could hear my happy sigh.

My Thoughts

This book begins before A Noble Masquerade ended and I don't think I've ever read a book like that before. I was hooked from the first sentence. In An Elegant Facade, we see the events at the end of A Noble Masquerade through the eyes of Lady Georgina Hawthorne and Colin McCrae.

Georgina has a secret that she fears will ruin her chances in society if she's found out and has been plotting for years to marry well which she believes will allow her to keep her secret hidden. To her friends and family, Georgina appears selfish and uncaring. Georgina and Colin keep running into each other and Georgina wants nothing to do with him because, in Georgina's mind, he is not high enough in society to benefit her. Colin finds out her secret and is fascinated by Georgina's brilliance and determination to keep it hidden. Colin also sees that Georgina's selfish demeanor is just a facade and comes to love the real woman behind it.

I thought the exchanges between Georgina and Colin were great! I also liked how Georgina was so loyal to her friends, even when it didn't fit with the appearance she was trying to maintain. I enjoyed watching Georgina grow and let her friends and family know the real Georgina. I also enjoyed watching Georgina accept herself for who God made her to be.

I purchased a copy of this book. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I Loved This Line

"That's why you do things the way you do them. Why Griffith is so determined to do things a certain way, even when it's family. Even though he's a duke. Because no matter what we do, be it good or ill, it goes away and only God is left. And fearing God, following God is the whole duty of man. The only thing that remains." 1

I Was Inspired

Several times in the book Colin thought about doing the right thing in God's eyes and I think that's always a good reminder.

Colin took a risk to teach Georgina about God's word, knowing that if she rejected it, he wouldn't be able to have a relationship with her.

From the Back of the Book

Lady Georgina Hawthorne has always known she must marry well. After years of tirelessly planning every detail of her debut season, she is poised to be a smashing success and have her choice of eligible gentlemen.

With money and powerful business connections but no title, Colin McCrae is invited everywhere but accepted nowhere. He intends to marry someday, but when he does it will not be to a shallow woman like Lady Georgina, whose only concerns appear to be status and appearance.

But beneath her flawless exterior, Georgina's social aspirations stem from a shameful secret she is desperately trying to keep hidden - and that Colin is too close to discovering. Drawn to each other despite their mutual intent to avoid association, is the realization of their dreams worth the sacrifices they'll be forced to make?
