Christmas Books!

I LOVE Christmas books! Do you? At the beginning of the Christmas book season (if there is such a thing), I had what I thought was a manageable list of Christmas books I wanted to read. Then that list grew. Now it looks like I'm going to have quite a list to start with next year. These are some (just some) of the books still on my list. If you click on the images, it will take you to the description of the book on the author's web-site.

First Line Friday - December 15, 2018

Happy First Line Friday! Where has half the month gone? It seems like it was just October. I had an unexpected project come up at work so I've been combining some overtime with holiday festivities and it's been busy! The second half of our month looks much slower so I'm looking forward to relaxing with a book near the Christmas tree.

My first line today is from A (kinda) Country Christmas by Krista Phillips. It was free for Kindle earlier this week so I took advantage of the freebie. Have you seen this author's web-site? I think it's fabulous! You can check it out here. I love the purple and sparkles! She also has a very special story about her daughter.

First Line Friday - December 8, 2017

Happy Friday! I hope you are enjoying the anticipation of and preparations for Christmas!

My first line today is from A Royal Christmas Wedding by Rachel Hauck. I read this last year and enjoyed it. If you haven't read it yet, I recommend adding it to your list of Christmas reads!

Christian Author Christmas Extravaganza

If you're like me, you are currently knee deep in Christmas books. Yay! However, January is coming and it will be time to put those books away and move on to other great reads. Below is a list of titles that are currently on sale (a few are even free!) from several Christian authors. The sale runs from December 8 through at least December 12 so hurry and grab your copies today! These discounted and free books are such a great way to discover new authors or catch up on books you might have missed. (Disclaimer: I have not read all of these books, however they are all books that I want to read or are written by authors whose writing I am familiar with.)

Review: The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner

From the Back of the Book

Becoming a Christian is the best--and worst--thing that has ever happened to Sarah Hollenbeck.

Up to now, Sarah Hollenbeck made her very comfortable living as a well-known, bestselling author of steamy romance novels that would leave the members of her new church blushing. Now she's trying to reconcile her past with the future she's chosen. She's still under contract with her publisher and on the hook with her enormous fan base for the kind of book she's not sure she can write anymore. She's discovering that the church might frown on her tithing on royalties from a "scandalous" book. And the fact that she's falling in love with her pastor . . . well, let's just say that doesn't make things any easier.

Review: Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber

About the Book

"Merry Knight is pretty busy these days. She’s taking care of her family, baking cookies, decorating for the holidays, and hoping to stay out of the crosshairs of her stressed and by-the-book boss at the consulting firm where she temps. Her own social life is the last thing she has in mind, much less a man. Without her knowledge, Merry’s well-meaning mom and brother create an online dating profile for her—minus her photo—and the matches start rolling in. Initially, Merry is incredulous, but she reluctantly decides to give it a whirl.

It's First Line Friday! Yay! I am always excited to see what books others are sharing!

My first line today is from The Engagement Plot by Krista Phillips. It's about a couple who met and got engaged on a reality TV show, but apparently things quickly went awry. It looks like a great story and I am excited to read it!

My first line today is from A Love Like Ours by Becky Wade. I chose this book because Jake, one of the main characters, is a former marine.

Review: Magnolia Storms by Janet W. Ferguson

From the Back of the Book

Maggie Marovich couldn’t save her father or her home from Hurricane Katrina, but she’s dedicated her life to meteorology so she can warn others when the monster storms approach. Except…she works three hours inland and rarely risks returning to her childhood hometown of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Both her single-parent sister and the ship pilot Maggie once loved refused to leave the Coast, despite Maggie’s requests. Now a hurricane’s headed toward Mississippi, and Maggie’s sister is seriously injured, leaving Maggie little choice but to head south—into the storm.

First Line Friday - October 27, 2017

Happy First Line Friday! Is it too early to be excited about Christmas books? I borrowed three Christmas books and one Hallmark Christmas DVD from the library last week. That wasn't my intention but that's what I came home with. I have a few other Christmas books inching their way up my to be read list, too.

My first line today is from one of those library books Christmas at Harrington's by Melody Carlson.

Review: As My Parents Age by Cynthia Ruchti

From the Back of the Book

When our parents age, it can be lonely and heartbreaking for them and us. These forty reflections offer hope and reassurance that you are not alone in the process. Roles change, priorities are challenged, and difficult conversations must be had. But there are also precious memories to be made.

Author Interview - Melanie D. Snitker

I am excited to welcome Melanie D. Snitker to the blog today! I recently read and enjoyed Melanie's latest novella Finding Forever In Romance which is part of a collection of stories called Fall Into Romance

Melanie D. Snitker has enjoyed writing for as long as she can remember. She started out creating episodes of cartoon shows that she wanted to see as a child, and her love of writing grew from there. She and her husband live in Texas with their two children who keep their lives full of adventure, and two dogs who add a dash of mischief to the family dynamics. In her spare time, Melanie enjoys photography, reading, crochet, baking, camping, and hanging out with family and friends.

Review: Fiercehearted by Holley Gerth

About the Book

Every day we struggle to find more freedom, joy, and purpose. What if the solution isn't trying harder or being better but embracing the fiercehearted woman already inside us? A fiercehearted woman looks life in the face and says, "You can't beat me." She lives fully and loves bravely. She never gives in, never gives up, and never lets go. She dares to be who she is-imperfect and beloved.

I was so excited when I heard about the Fall Into Romance novella collection! Not only is this a collection of sweet romances, but each novella features animals. ADOPTABLE ANIMALS! πŸ’•πŸΆπŸ±πŸ’•

I interrupted all other reading to start this novella collection because I just couldn't resist the animal aspect of these stories! I started with Finding Forever in Romance by Melanie D. Snitker and I really enjoyed it.

Review: The Christmas Blessing by Melody Carlson

The Christmas Blessing by Melody Carlson is a nice book to kick off the Christmas reading season with.

First Line Friday - September 29, 2017

It's hard to believe it's Friday again so soon. But since it is...yay! It's "First Line Friday" with lots of book suggestions to look at.

My first line today is from Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck. This book is from 2013 and is the first in Hauck's Royal Wedding Series. I enjoyed the series very much and if you like contemporary romance and reading about commoners becoming royalty, I highly recommend this series!

"What did he say? The storm gusts moving over the Atlantic must have garbled his words. 'I can't marry you.'"

Going for a Test Read

Have you ever wanted to take a new author for a "test read" without committing the time to an entire novel? I'm finding that an increasing number of authors are releasing (often free in e-book format) novellas that are prequels to a series. I've been loving these novellas and adding the novels in their related series to my To Be Read list! Here are a few that I have read or recommend trying.

What Books Have You Reread?

In my recent post about Tackling the Fields, I mentioned that I am adding this to my "keeper shelf". I liked it so much that I want to reread it someday. It's just so hard to fit in "rereads" because there are so many books I haven't read yet that look so good! I have actually reread a few books over the years...multiple times! Here's my list:

Summer Reading List

The weather is warm, school is out, and summer is (almost officially) here. That means afternoons spent by the pool with book in hand, staying up late because we keep thinking "just one more chapter", and lots of time browsing the local bookstore to increase our To Be Read piles, right? That's not how you can spend your summer? Well, me neither, but it sure would be nice if life took a reading break!

Review: An Elegant Facade by Kristi Ann Hunter

What a wonderful book! An Elegant Facade is the second book in Kristi Ann Hunter's Hawthorne House series and it was wonderful to read. If only you could hear my happy sigh.

Pretty Covers!

I am always drawn to a pretty cover. I don't always read the book, but if I think the cover is pretty, I'll  definitely take a look. Pretty covers just make me happy. Well, books in general make me happy, but there's something special about a pretty cover.

Review: Almost Like Being in Love by Beth K. Vogt

I really enjoyed Almost Like Being in Love by Beth K. Vogt. The story was good and I was inspired by this book on a spiritual level.
