About the Book

A tragic ATV accident took the life of Ashley Alvine’s husband and put her daughter Gwenny in a wheelchair. Life as a single mom has meant devoting every waking minute to Gwenny, with no time left over for anything else—especially romance and especially not a puppy. Unfortunately, Ashley just can’t say no when her daughter falls head over heels for a sweet Dalmatian puppy.

Bachelor veterinarian Luke Bryant is painfully shy. Although his mother would prefer that he settle down and raise a family, he’s more comfortable talking to animals than people. When his newest patient arrives with his wheelchair-bound owner and her single mom, it seems like fate might also be on the side of Luke’s mother.

Gwenny is desperate to see her mommy smile again. She appoints Luke’s mom as her provisional grandma and the two become the most joyful matchmaking team ever. Will their plans help this shy veterinarian and busy single mom admit that they’re destined for a happily-ever-after?

My Thoughts

This was a quick and delightful read! I love stories about single moms. Add a disabled, yet spunky little girl and a puppy and I'm hooked!

This story drew me in at the opening scene where Gwenny has figured out how to modify her movements so she can swing as high as the other kids even thought she is paralyzed from the waist down. Gwenny is a sweet and inspiring character. She has such an upbeat personality despite her physical limitations.

Ashley is struggling to provide for her daughter, Gwenny, and is heartbroken over the loss of her husband in the accident that injured Gwenny. Ashley is solely focused on raising her daughter and providing for her and has no interest in romance.

Gwenny hatches a plan to find a new daddy who can make her mom happy again. Shortly thereafter they meet Luke, a local veterinarian. Luke has had his heart broken before by a single mom who had a son and has no interest in repeating that event with Ashley and Gwenny. Ashley and Gwenny adopt a puppy and Luke is providing free vet services and eventually begins working with them to train the puppy to be Gwenny's service dog. Luke's mom works at his vet clinic and becomes known as "Grammy Ruth" to Gwenny.

I thought some of Ashley's nicknames for the puppy were hilarious! I loved all of the characters in this book. I thought the relationship between Luke and Ashley progressed at a believable pace. It was neat to read all the things a service dog could do.

If you like contemporary sweet romance, I highly recommend this book.
