About the book: "Brent's hands are so full he doesn't realize his heart is empty. But how can he convince Nicole to trust him and give them all a chance at the forever family they deserve?"
Hi, Melanie! Thank you so much for joining me on the blog today! And a huge thank you for being my first ever interview! Clearly you have a sense of adventure. 😊
Melanie: Thank you for the opportunity to be here, Ellie. I’m honored that you asked me to be your first ever interview. I’ve been looking forward to this!
What inspired you to write the story Finding Forever in Romance?
Melanie: My love for animals was the first thing that inspired this story. I always had pets growing up, and my husband and I do as well. Most of them have been rescue animals, whether we went in search of one to adopt, or they adopted us. When it came to the hero for my story, who better than a guy who dedicates his life to helping homeless pets find their forever families?
How did the collaboration of authors come together for Fall Into Romance?
Melanie: When Shanna Hatfield and I originally began discussing the idea of creating Romance, Oregon, we thought sweet romances and adoptable pets would be a great combination. We knew there was a lot of potential for fun characters, quirky animals, and swoon-worthy romance. When the other eight authors joined it, the combination was perfect. It’s been so much fun working with all of them on this project!
Do you have any pets?
Melanie: We have two dogs. Jasper is a shepherd mix with one blue eye and one brown eye. He turned eight this year. He’s one of those rescues that kind of found us. We were driving home from church on Easter when we saw this little puppy running on the side of the highway in the country. We stopped, and as soon as I stepped out of our vehicle, he came running up to me. He rode home on my lap, and he’s been with us ever since! Jessie looks a lot like Jasper, but she’s about a third his size. We adopted her from a pet adoption event at one of our local pet stores when she was six-months-old. She turned four this year and is one of the best kid dogs we’ve ever had. She and our daughter do everything together.
Melanie: Honestly, the promotional aspect of being an author can be incredibly daunting. I had no idea just how much time and effort went into getting my books out there in front of readers. At the same time, I’ve been absolutely amazed at how wonderful and supportive my readers are. I’ve met so many amazing people that have inspired me. Sharing my stories with them makes everything worthwhile.
What has been one of your most rewarding experiences as an author?
Melanie: My prayer with each book I write is that God will use it to encourage someone else. Hearing from a reader about how one of my stories has touched his or her life is one of the most amazing and rewarding things I’ve ever experienced.
What does a typical day look like for you when you are writing?
Melanie: I’m incredibly blessed to be a stay at home mom to our two kiddos and homeschool them as well. I often get up an hour or two earlier than the kids in the morning so I can get some writing in, and then I try to write more over the weekend. My husband is incredibly supportive. I definitely couldn’t do any of this without him!
Do you have a favorite Bible verse or a verse that is particularly meaningful to you right now? If so, what is it and why is it meaningful?
Melanie: One of my favorite Bible verses is Isaiah 40:31: Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
I love this verse because it reminds me that, no matter what challenge I’m facing, God will give me the strength I need to get through it.
What are you planning next?
Melanie: I’m currently finishing Finding Grace, the sixth and last book in my Love’s Compass series. It’s been fun to finally write Beth’s story and revisit some of the previous characters to tie up loose ends. Finding Grace will be released January 3rd – three years to the day after the first book, Finding Peace, was published. I thought that would be fitting. It’s going to be sad to let these characters go, but I can’t wait for fans of the series to read this last book about the lives of the Chandler and Davenport families.
Thanks again, Ellie, for the opportunity to be a guest on your blog. I’ve had a wonderful time chatting with you and your readers!
Ellie: Thank YOU, Melanie! It has been great getting to know you! I am looking forward to reading more of your books! I am heading off to order one now...
